Rasmussen Poll: Voters Angry Over Immigration

A recent Rasmussen poll makes it very clear that a majority of Americans remain dissatisfied with the failure of the federal government to secure our borders and to stop the influx of illegal immigrants. What is very telling is that a much larger proportion of McCain supporters than of Obama supporters are angry about this issue and are directing their anger at current policies, including those more relaxed, open borders policies of the Bush Administration that McCain still insists upon supporting. This indicates that, even if conservatives will vote for McCain as better than Obama, they will not sit by quietly when he attempts another amnesty next year. Click here for more.

John McCain Pro-Life? What a Joke!

Independent Presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin makes the case that the Republican Party and John McCain have not been serious about turning back Roe v. Wave or otherwise making abortions less numerous. While Republicans for the National Interest objects to the idea that a substantial gain for life may be made outside of the two party system, we agree that advocates for life within the Republican Party need to hold our leaders more to the fire, so that we finally start to receive more from them that lip service on a party platform. We also commend leaders like Congressman Ron Paul for supporting a Sanctity of Life bill. Click here for more.

Immigration Agency Scraps Self-Deportation Program

A pilot program allowing illegal immigrants to turn themselves in to authorities, in order to avoid jail time and have some control over their deportation process, has been dubbed a failure. During the three week trial period for the program, which was named "Scheduled Departure," only eight people participated with this program. According to one ICE official: "I think this proves the only method that works is enforcement." Click here for more.

McCain's Warped Worldview

Robert Scheer writes: "the McCain campaign for President: an irrational melange of patriotic swagger and blindness to reality that is proving disturbingly successful with uninformed voters. How else to explain the many millions of Americans who tell pollsters they prefer a continuation of Republican rule when so many of them are losing their homes to foreclosure, and the nation is bankrupted?" Republicans for the National Interest Chairman Michael Erickson responds in the comments. Click here for more.

Contra Costra Times Reacts to Counterproductive Lawsuit of County Republican Chairman to Unseat Fellow Republicans

Contra Costa Times writer Lisa Vorderbrueggen writes as follows about the decision of Alameda County Republican Central Committee Chairman Paul Cummings to file a suit in an attempt to unseat conservatives who ran for and won seats on the Central Committee there: "The Alameda County Republican Party, with only 16 percent of registered voters, can ill afford to turn people away. Not only is Assembly District 15 up for grabs, but the party would dearly love to reclaim the seat held by Democrat Rep. Jerry McNerney; [yet]serving your volunteers with subpoenas is a big turn-off." Click here for more.

Republican Central Committee Members battle among themselves over seats

Alameda Republican Central Committee Chairman Paul Cummings has filed suit against the Alameda County Registrar of Voters to try to have a number of conservatives, which collectively are known as the Constitutional Republicans of Alameda County, forced off, even though his group rather seldom has a quorum, and the Constitutional Republicans have shown themselves to be consistent volunteers. He claims only that he wants to uphold the law, but then why would "Mr. Accountability" have had a website that until recently listed members who do not reside in their districts and a member no longer living? Click here for more.

County Republican Chairman Files Lawsuit in Thinly Veiled Attempt to Unseat Fellow Republicans

Recently, a courageous group of Minutemen, Ron Paul supporters, and other conservative nationalists, collectively known as the Constitutional Republicans of Alameda County, ran en masse for the Alameda County Republican Central Committee. They won nearly half of the seats and have shown a commitment to working with all Republican candidates, including the local McCain campaign, as volunteers. Chairman Paul Cummings has responded with a very frivolous and expensive lawsuit, apparently because he would rather keep a dysfunctional, insular Central Committee than admit new activists. Republicans for the National Interests strongly condemns his behavior. Click here for more.

Saddleback Presidential Forum: Obama and McCain Answer Questions from Pastor Rick Warren

Presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain today answer questions from Pastor Rick Warren of the Saddleback Church. While Obama evades a clear answer of abortion and gay marriage, McCain uses the opportunity to present his recent but now unambiguous support for relaxation of restrictions on offshore oil drilling. He also unambiguously acknowledges that life begins at conception and that he has sustained a pro-life voting record. Click here for more.

American Imbalance: Made in China

John Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute, a conservative civil liberties group, makes the case that it is virtually impossible for Americans today to purchase anything that is not wholly or partially made in communist China. In his commentary entitled "Is America Made in China?" Whitehead considers the economic and moral ramifications of the ever increasing American dependency on one of the worst abusers of human rights in the world. Click here for more.

Pelosi: Shape Up, Dems

Philadelphia Bulletin columnist Joe Murray asks Republicans for the National Interest Chairman Michael Erickson about verbal attacks by Speaker Pelosi. Erickson says: "The recent, derogatory comments by Speaker Pelosi...show the full extent to which she is being held hostage to the very extreme, leftist viewpoints of MoveOn.org. By attacking Democrats like Joe Lieberman, Speaker Pelosi essentially concedes the white, working class, Hillary Clinton voters....The question really is whether John McCain, in spite of his pro-NAFTA, pro-free trade positioning, will be able to take advantage of that opportunity." Click here for more.
